What is Ethos, and Why Does it Matter?

Crypto has always had a trust problem.
Anyone can create a new wallet or new X account. Anyone can farm followers. And when money is on the line, this lack of credibility leads to scams, wasted airdrops, and communities filled with noise.
Ethos is trying to solve this.
It’s an on-chain reputation protocol built on Base, designed to bring credibility and trust into crypto interactions.
Instead of relying only on wallets, hype, or who shouts the loudest, Ethos introduces a Credibility Score (0–2800) ⟶ a number that reflects how much trust a user has earned through reviews, vouches, and real activity inside the ecosystem.
Why does it matter?
In crypto, signal matters. Ethos makes it possible to separate builders and contributors from bots and opportunists.
Your score can unlock whitelists, qualify you for airdrops, and lower fees in future protocols. Already, projects like Cerebro and Alice Keys have rewarded users based on Ethos reputation.
It’s not just another social graph. It’s a credibility layer that can travel across ecosystems.
➡ Credibility is quickly becoming the new currency of crypto. Miss it, and you’ll be left behind.
What is it for?
Helping projects find high-signal users instead of wasting tokens on bots.
Helping users prove credibility and get rewarded for the value they bring.
Building a market for reputation, where your trustworthiness becomes an asset.
Put simply: if 1,000 wallets fight for 100 WL spots, the ones with higher Ethos credibility will get them.
In short: Ethos makes credibility measurable, portable, and powerful. And those who build their reputation early will have the biggest edge when the next wave of rewards and integrations arrive.

Ethos Everywhere: the extension that puts credibility where you browse

For the first time, you can see credibility scores exactly where you make decisions.
Ethos Everywhere is a Chrome extension that overlays Credibility Scores (0–2800) right on the surfaces you already use in crypto ⟶ X, Kaito, Farcaster, OpenSea… No more guessing who’s legit: you’ll see reputation in context, exactly when you need it.
What it shows
Tooltip scores: hover to see a user’s score and profile at a glance.
Avatar badges: quick credibility icons on feeds and lists.
Deep profile jump: one click to full reviews, vouches, and slashes.
Why it matters? Some examples:
On X: cut through noise, follow real signal. Detect scams.
On Kaito: identify credible accounts on leaderboards.
On OpenSea: Check if the collections have a good track record and if their holders are trusted users.
For investments: verify founders and team reputation before committing.
Ethos Everywhere makes credibility portable. Wherever you make crypto decisions, you’ll instantly know who’s worth trusting, and who’s not.
It’s like putting X-ray glasses on Web3.

How Ethos Works

At its core, Ethos is simple: your credibility is built by how others interact with you, and how you interact with them. Here’s how the system works:
Reviews → The backbone of Ethos. Users can leave reviews (positive or negative) that shape your reputation.
Example: You helped someone with a guide, they review you positively → your score rises.Vouch → Vouches are the strongest trust signal. When someone vouches, they’re staking their credibility on you.
Example: A respected user vouches you → it boosts your score more than a random review.Slash → Slashes are credibility penalties. If you act maliciously or mislead, others can “slash” your credibility, lowering your score.
Example: You promote a scam → people slash you → your trust power drops fast.Reputation (the sum) → All reviews, vouches, and slashes combine into your Credibility Score (0–2800). This number is what projects look at when deciding WLs, airdrops, or access.
Votes → Votes add nuance: the community can upvote or downvote your contributions, refining your reputation.
Invites → Every invite you send is a reflection of your judgment. If the person you invited behaves well, your score benefits; if they damage the community, your score suffers.
Influence Factor → Ethos doesn’t just measure credibility, it also measures reach. Influence Factor shows how much real impact a user has across the network.
High influence ≠ high trust, and low influence ≠ low trust.
Example: a scammer may have high influence but a terrible score, while a reputable builder shows strength in both. Together, Score + Influence paint the full picture of trust and reach.
The system in action:
Help others, contribute value, and get vouched by credible users → your score grows. Mislead, spam, or invite bad actors → your score gets punished.
Ethos rewards positive-sum behavior and punishes low-signal actions. Build smart, and your credibility becomes your most valuable on-chain asset.
Your Credibility Score in tiers

All reviews, vouches, and slashes roll up into your Credibility Score (0–2800) ⟶ and Ethos visualizes it in tiers, from Untrusted all the way to Renowned.
Low scores (Untrusted / Questionable) lock you out of most opportunities.
High scores (Known/ Renowned) open doors: give you visibility, cheaper fees, stronger influence, and higher chances at WLs and airdrops.
And here’s the key: this isn’t just for big accounts with thousands of followers. In Ethos, even small profiles can earn their place and reputation by consistently contributing value.
Think of it as a status ladder: the higher you climb, the more weight your reputation carries ⟶ and the earlier you build it, the harder it is for others to catch up.
Some launchpads are already experimenting with using Ethos Scores to gate presale access ⟶ meaning your reputation could literally decide if you get in early or not.

How to Earn XP on Ethos (Possible Airdrop)

In Ethos, XP it’s a way to measure your contributions. Every action you take adds to your Contributor XP signaling that you’re an active, trusted participant.
Ways to earn XP:
Contributions → Write thoughtful reviews, vouch trusted accounts, flag bad actors with slashes, invite quality users, and participate in votes and credibility markets.
Commitment → Log in regularly, keep your streak alive, and show consistency over time. Reputation compounds with steady participation.
Skin in the game → Back others with vouched ETH, hold Validator NFTs linked to your profile, or engage with Ethos Markets. These actions show you’re invested in the network’s credibility.
Proof it matters:
Ethos has already rewarded early contributors with Validator NFTs. Those NFTs, once free, are now trading above $11,000 each ⟶ a clear signal that building early credibility can unlock real value.
Reminder: Earning XP isn’t about grinding tasks ⟶ it’s about showing up, contributing value, and proving credibility. And if Ethos expands rewards in the future, those who built genuine XP early will be in the strongest position to benefit.

GUIDE: How to Play Ethos Smart

Ethos rewards quality, not quantity. Every review, vouch, and invite shapes your credibility. If you play it wrong, it can slash your score.
Here’s the complete guide to building reputation the smart way.
✍🏼 Reviews: do them right
Reviews are the backbone of Ethos. Done well, they build your credibility. Done wrong, they hurt it.
Rules for smart reviews:
Be specific → “Great guide on farming LayerZero” is worth more than “good guy.”
Add context → Explain why someone was helpful (tutorial, support, research, collaboration).
Keep it real → Fake or copy-paste reviews get ignored ⟶ or worse, backfire.
Score matters → Only post reviews when the score is green. Avoid yellow ratings.
No review-for-review → Loops or review groups are penalized and can slash your credibility.
Reciprocal reviews rule → Only the first 10 reciprocal reviews increase your score. After that, every new reciprocal review requires a non-reciprocal one to count.
Be organic → Review people you actually know or interacted with. Don’t invent interactions.
Length ≠ quality → A review can be short and still count as high-value.
Be subjective → Ethos values your personal experience, not objective data anyone can pull from Twitter.
Consistency counts → Aim for 1–2 thoughtful reviews per day. If needed, research someone new and review them, but always keep it natural.
🫂 Vouches: your most powerful signal
Vouches are stronger than reviews. When you vouch for someone, you’re staking your credibility and ETH on them.
How to use vouches smartly:
Quality > quantity → A vouch from a respected, high-score account is gold.
Protect your credibility → If the person you vouched is slashed, your score suffers too. Choose carefully.
Mutual vouches matter → When two accounts vouch each other, both rise faster and gain more credibility.
Funds are safe → The person you vouch does not control the ETH. They can’t withdraw or move it.
Flexible commitment → You can remove a vouch at any time.
Vouch unlocks gradually → Example: “24/180” means 7 points now, the rest (24) over 180 days. This prevents quick in/out abuse and locks support long-term.
Rewards system:
If someone vouches you → you get a 1% donation.
If you vouch someone for the first time → you earn 4% from future vouchers they receive.
1% fee goes to the Ethos team.
💡 Extra Tips
XP cap → Only the top 4000 weekly active users get full XP rewards. If you’re below that, your XP is cut under 100 XP. (Rule may change)
Focus on activity → Ethos Markets positions aren’t as relevant right now. What matters most is reviews, vouches, and consistent activity.
No “indifferent” votes → Always choose positive or negative. Research before voting if necessary.
Fee rule → If your score is below 1300, you pay fees inside Ethos. Cross 1300+ and those fees disappear.
Social connections → Linking all your socials to Ethos gives you +15 reputation.
X account age → If your X account is less than 1 year old, your reputation drops by 50 points.
Monthly votes → Every month you get one “Bullish” and one “Bearish” vote for Listings. Use them, they’re part of your activity footprint.
Participate in slashes and comments → Flag bad actors and engage in discussions, both actions strengthen your credibility signal.
⚠️ Risks & bad practices to avoid
Your reputation is fragile. These mistakes can slash your score:
Review x review → Easy to detect, and heavily penalized. Even triangles or organized groups.
Inviting the wrong people → If your invitees spam or get slashed, your credibility takes a hit.
Over-reviewing nonsense → Flooding with shallow reviews lowers your trust weight.
Backing the wrong person → If you gave someone an invite, positive review or vouch and they get slashed, you lose credibility too. Trust carefully.
Smart contract risk → Remember: vouched funds live inside Ethos contracts.
Conclusion
Build credibility like you’d build capital: carefully, consistently, and with long-term thinking.
Every review and vouch is an investment. Choose wisely, avoid shortcuts, and your reputation will become an asset that opens doors money can’t.
--------------------------------------
Being Early: Take Advantage Now

Ethos is still in its early adoption phase. That means every action you take today: reviews, vouches, invites… counts more while the system is still growing.
Early adopters always capture the biggest upside (WLs, airdrops, credibility weight).
The community is still small enough that every good action stands out.
If you believe credibility will matter in Web3 (and it will), now is the time to plant your flag.
--------------------------------------
How to Get an Invite
Ethos is invite-only. Access is scarce, and every invite is a signal of trust. Right now, the only way in is through someone already inside.
Ways to get in:
Find them on X and communities → Many users are actively looking for the right person to share their invites with.
Buy OTC on Exaverse → Invites are trading in the $10–15 range.
Automatic exception → If you already have an Ethos Score above 1400 but no Ethos profile, you qualify for an automatic invite. This usually applies to recognized projects and well-established users.
